Joint committee ushers in new era of transparency and accountability
Exciting new chapter opens for South Essex councils' partnership
The first meeting of the Joint Committee of the Association of South Essex Local Authorities (ASELA) was held at the offices of Castle Point Borough Council on Thursday 28 October 2021. The meeting was ASELA's first to be held in public and streamed live as the partnership moves into an exciting phase of delivery and next steps for its five key programmes to improve growth and prosperity across the region.
Cllr Chris Hossack, Leader of Brentwood Borough Council, was elected Chair for the remainder of the municipal year and Cllr Simon Wootton, Leader of Rochford Borough Council, Vice-Chair.
Cllr Hossack began by paying tribute to David Marchant, who sadly passed away earlier this year, and who as Chief Executive of Castle Point Borough Council was a "driving force behind ASELA and who made a massive contribution to South Essex and to Castle Point."
Cllr Simon Wootton said: "Now we are properly formed with strong governance and clarity of purpose, we can move forward and make a real difference, ensuring South Essex is an attractive and affordable place to live."
